Twist Fate

Design Challenge:

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
– The Dark Knight

The purpose of this challenge was for teens to select a story and character, and create an alternate scenario where a famous hero is the villain, or an infamous villain, the hero. DeviantArt and Wattpad joined forces for this challenge, so youth 13-17 can submit their best pictures, written stories, comic panels, illustrations, to either platform. The contest ran March 6 to April 6, 2016.

Claudia’s Involvement:

I organized a catalog that curates all the finalists (100 of them!). The anthology features stories and artwork from Deviant Art and Wattpad. The featured works in the catalog were selected by four editors: writers Sara Ryan (author of “Bad Houses,” “The Rules for Hearts” and “Empress of the World”) and Lauren Kate (author of “Fallen,” Torment,” “Passion,” “Rapture,” “Fallen in Love” and “The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove”), Walt Disney Animation Studios story artist Brian Kesinger and Antero Garcia, assistant professor of English at Colorado State University.

The book will be distributed to public libraries across the United States and Canada and available online around the world!
