The goal of the Education Department at Wolfsonian-Florida International University (FIU), a museum of art and design in Miami Beach, was to make the museum’s art collection, spanning from 1850-1945, accessible to teens.
I worked alongside my colleague Kate Rawlison to conceptualize and develop a prototype for a digital lab that would help youth connect with the museum’s vast collection of graphic and propaganda arts. We secured funding to outfit the Wolfsonian’s Digital Wolf Design Lab as well as develop a curriculum. Comic Kraze, was our first pilot arts program aimed at teens, ages 14-17. A small number of youth were selected to learn the basics of creating comics and graphic novels.
